Dr Julie Thompson has recently retired from clinical practice, having spent 40 years working as a procedural general practitioner in both rural and urban settings.
Dr Thompson has more than 30 years of experience as a director on health-related boards of governance at a local, regional, state and national level, including community health, hospital, aged care and divisions of general practice. She served as chair of both General Practice Divisions – Victoria and Australian Divisions of General Practice. Dr Thompson is a foundation director of SEMPHN.
Dr Thompson has broad experience in health system reform including chronic disease management, mental health, cancer control, and primary care, and has served on several ministerial advisory committees in these areas.
Dr Thompson brings particular experience in strategic thinking and clinical governance to the SEMPHN Board having recently chaired the National Quality Committee for BreastScreen Australia and as a director of HealthDirect Australia.
